Work Package 4: Gender Dimension in Research & Innovation

Work Package 4: Gender Dimension in Research & Innovation

The work package, led by Lydia González, from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), Spain, examined existing guidelines and policies on the gender dimension in research and innovation (R&I) content in EU member states and associated Countries to develop policy advice, enhance the capacities of National Contact Points, and raise awareness among citizens and stakeholders. The work package analysed existing policies and measures for integrating the gender dimension into the content of R&I and teaching across the European Research Area (ERA), including examples of promising practices and recommendations. Some data from this analysis has been made available in the shape of an online dashboard, showcasing the data from research funding organisations. National Contact Points are key stakeholders in the efforts toward gender equality in R&I in MS and AC; consequently, an assessment of needs and of training of NCPs was conducted, and policy coordination and promising practices were gathered, coordinated and shared across MS and AC. Informed by this assessment, a position paper based on the knowledge produced on the role of NCPs towards gender equality in R&I was also produced. Building on this extensive work, the work package produced guidelines on how to address resistances to policies promoting sex/gender analysis in R&I content, targeting national authorities and research funding organisations. Lastly, the work package made recommendations for the 10th Research Framework Programme in a position paper targeting the European Commission. Ultimately, the work performed shows that policies on Inclusive Gender Analysis in R&I content in the ERA need to be further strengthened in terms of visibility, financial support, and training.
